Dietrich: Where Memories and Traditions are Made
In Dietrich College, we know that building strong community ties is essential for fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive and feel valued and empowered.
Our events and programs not only promote meaningful connections among peers, faculty and vital resources but also create an inspiring environment that encourages exploration, enriching your academic experience and paving the way for lifelong friendships.

Get Involved!
Are you ready to take your student experience to the next level and share your unique perspective?
Join the Dietrich Student Advisory Board, Dietrich VOICES or the Humanities Undergraduate Group and become part of a vibrant community dedicated to empowerment, advocacy and collaboration!
Dietrich Student Advisory Board
The Student Advisory Board members represent all Dietrich College undergraduate students. The Board is composed of two committees, Discussion & Advocacy and Activities & Connections.
The Discussion & Advocacy Committee provides feedback on topics related to Academic Advising, Experiential Learning and the General Education Program. This group may also advocate for policy change, consideration, etc. Meetings are held every other week starting in September.
The Activities & Connections Committee assists in the planning and running of student-focused activities at the college level and initiates new ways to increase connections across Dietrich College. Meetings are held every other week starting in September.
Dietrich undergraduate students can choose to be involved with one or both committees. This is a year-long commitment with the opportunity to return the following year.
Dietrich VOICES
Dietrich VOICES seeks to celebrate and foster community among Dietrich students, faculty and staff, particularly from first-generation, limited-resource and other underrepresented backgrounds in higher education. Our mission is to build a sense of pride, belonging, thriving and empowerment in what it means to navigate higher education and CMU, together.
Key Program Components:
- Community meals, which take place several times a semester
- Informational workshops offered in collaboration with campus partners to help students unpack the “hidden curriculum of college”
- Social events help build community among students in the VOICES program
- An Online Resource Hub in Canvas Student Study Space in Baker Hall 126D, available for any Dietrich undergraduate to swipe in
- Optional mentorship program which intentionally organizes small groups that include a faculty member, staff member and 2-3 undergraduate students, so that mentorship from both faculty and staff, as well as peer mentorship is provided.
Dietrich VOICES is an opt-in program. This means that it is open to any Dietrich student, staff or faculty member who wishes to find or give support in this community. Your voice matters here. If you have ideas or feedback on how this community can better provide support, please do share it: dietrichvoices@andrew.yueziqi.com.
Humanities Undergraduate Group
The Humanities Undergraduate Group (HUG) is an organization open to all majors, additional majors, minors and first-year students in History, English, Philosophy and Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (LCAL).
The purpose of HUG is to give humanities students a greater voice in Dietrich College while facilitating community, interdepartmental collaboration and leadership among humanities students.
In-person meetings are held routinely every semester, providing HUG members an opportunity to socialize, express their concerns to the Humanities Advisor and propose and plan humanities events and programs.
